Montredon, Introduction
The Vallesian Hipparion from Montredon have already been described and discussed in an old paper 64.Les Périssodactyles Equidae de Montredon..
Here raw data (instead of statistical tables) and more photographs are made available.
The material is not homogeneous: fossils of Hipparion depereti, a middle sized and moderalely robust species with excessvely plicated enamel on the cheek teeth are the most numerous. There are, moreover, smaller specimens with a simpler enamel and/or a different fossilization. A distinction between the two (or three?) forms is difficult. The sorting proposed in tables of data and photographic plates is uncertain.
